The AWS Management Console provides centralized access to the Amazon cloud computing services utilized in HySDS, including: EC2 compute instances, Simple Storage Solution (S3) buckets, and Auto Scaling Groups (ASG).

Access the Management Console:

  1. Navigate to: www.goto.jpl.gov/awsconsole and log in with your JPL credentials.

  2. Once logged in you will be redirected to the AWS Management Console main page.

  3. In the upper right corner, confirm the correct Region (#1) in the drop-down menu is selected (Oregon in this example). The page should look like this:

View Running Instances:

  1. In the AWS Services search box (#2) enter the name of the desired service to access; in this case type “EC2” to open the EC2 instances console.

  2. Once on the EC2 Instance console page, click on the link titled “Running Instances” (#3) to view the running EC2 compute instances.

View S3 Storage Buckets:

HySDS stores its data in S3 data buckets, and it doesn’t have the ability to create them; they are created for you using a naming convention. There are two types of S3 buckets:

  • Code bucket: where all docker containers are stored

  • Dataset bucket: where you store various types of data such as products and triage.

    • Triage: If something fails for any reason, then the working directory is saved in triage

    • Product: Either products you ingest from outside or products you make

Info

A dataset always includes a minimum of: context, dataset, met jsons, and tarballs (actual product)

  1. Click “Services” in the upper-left corner of the AWS console.

  2. To access the S3 storage buckets, either type “S3” into the search box (#4) or click “S3” (#5) under the Storage sub-menu.

3. S3 Storage buckets can be searched for by keyword using the search box (#6).

View Auto Scaling Groups (ASG’s):

  1. In the AWS Services search box, type “EC2” as shown in Figure 2 above to open the EC2 Instances console.

  2. Once on the EC2 Services page, scroll down in the left-hand column menu and click on the “Auto Scaling Groups” link (#7).

3. The Auto Scaling Groups page lists all ASG’s and allows for keyword searching via the search box (#8).
